Lapjesboom

In the entrance area, you are welcomed by Lapjesboom. Simone Post sees this large tree as a symbol of growth and transformation. The trunk and its spreading branches were assembled by the designer from strips made of leftover Vlisco fabric, which is produced in the Netherlands for Central and West African markets. This textile has been an important base material since the start of her career and has become a defining element of her style.

Within the tree, not only flowers and leaves can be recognized, but also collection pieces from the Centraal Museum. All the materials and techniques used by Post had appeared in earlier projects. In this way, something new is created from something old — a working method that emphasizes Post’s sustainable approach. The branches of the tree extend high into the entrance hall, directing visitors toward the upper floors of the museum, where there is still much more to discover.
