Children's Design

Concept Design

I designed a book in which I show my ideas for a new designing method. In this method I use the children’s unlimited capacity to imagine as a starting point and inspiration for the designing process, aimed at getting new, free-spirited ideas, uninhibited by existing standards.

During the process I was struck by the inspiring way of thinking manifested by children between eight and ten years old. At that age, they are already able to think about details and the workings of certain objects, but they are not held back or limited by the imprinted and set ideas that adults can have of how things are supposed to be.

I gave children different design assignments and asked them to make drawings of their ideas. After this process, I started to translate these drawings into models and ideas for designs. This project resulted in a book, visualizing a refreshing method to start a designing process.
